Are knitting and aerial basically the same thing?

Hey Reader,

Something you may or may not know about me is that I'm a knitter.

I sometimes struggle to pay attention to one thing, so having something to do with my hands while I watch TV, or listen to an audiobook, is really helpful. Also, if I'm knitting, I can't doom scroll! Cause that's no good for anyone...

One of the reason why I love knitting so much is because of the patterns. I love patterns! And understanding patterns, and pattern variation, is something I have an innate proclivity for.

I've been working on my next wrap theory class recently, so my brain is full of that, and the other day I had a thought:

A catcher's/diaper wrap is like a knit stitch, and an infinity seatbelt wrap is like a purl stitch!

Your mind might not be as blown as mine was, that's okay!

But it does make sense to me why I get so into wrap theory, because it's all the same pattern recognition and pattern variation that you have in knitting.

Understanding where the apparatus is on your body, what direction the wraps are going in, and what options you have based on that is all based on understanding these fundamental patterns.

In knitting, there are 2 stitches: knit and purl. They go in opposite directions. All the other stitches or patterns you might knit are based on those 2 fundamental stitches.

On an aerial apparatus, there are 2 wrap families: diaper/catchers and infinity/seatbelt. They go in opposite directions, and all the other wraps that you might make are based on those 2 fundamental wraps.

This idea is the foundation of how I approach teaching wrap theory, and laying out these concepts and how they relate to your aerial skills and wraps is exactly what my masterclass That's a Wrap! was all about!

But here's the thing: I get REALLY excited about this sort of thing. So when I put together this class, I ended up with way more content than I could actually fit into a reasonable amount of time.

So I decided to take all that material that I couldn't get to in the original class, add some more cool stuff to it, and offer a second class!

That's a Wrap! Part 2 is March 9th at 10am PDT, and I'm so excited to get into it with you all!

This class will pick up where Part 1 left off, and will keep building on the concepts laid out in the first class as we break down more complicated skills and sequences.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be awesome!

And if you're interested, but missed out on the first class, you can still get it!

You can find all the details and sign up here!

If you've got questions, email me back and I'll answer them!

Otherwise, I hope to see you there.

Love,

Lauren
