Wrap theory, unlocked

Hey Reader,

I’ve been talking a lot about wrap theory recently.

In my last email, I talked about the idea of Wrap Families, and how there are two basic foundational wraps that all the other wraps connect to.

I call them Diaper family and Infinity family.

Yes, I know, many people hate using the word Diaper. You are allowed to call it whatever you want! That’s just what I call it.

ANYWAY!

To go along with this idea of wrap families, I also teach that there are four ways to hook a knee.

And those four ways correspond to the two families. There are two knee hooks for each family.

In the Diaper family, there is a Gazelle hook. This is a same side, outside in hook. This is also the same as a same side leg hook on any vertical apparatus.

This is also Lion in a tree, which is an opposite side, inside out hook. This is the same as an opposite leg hook on a vertical apparatus.

Notice that in both of these leg hooks, the pole is on the outside of the knee. That’s how you know it’s in the Diaper family!

In the Infinity family, there is a hook that I call Inside out hook. This is a same side, inside out hook. This one is funny because it can be shown two different ways, but it’s ultimately the same hook. It’s just a matter of whether the apparatus is in a position where the leg can fully wrap around the pole.

The other hook I call a Reverse hook. It is an opposite side, outside in hook.

Both of these leg hooks can also be done on vertical, but I don’t know enough vertical terminology to tell you what they’d be called! Dog leg? Hiphop beats are sometimes involved?

But I want to point out that in these hooks, the pole is on the inside of the knee. That’s how you know it’s an Infinity hook!

Understanding this is a fundamental part of understanding wrap theory, and it’s the introduction to my class That’s a Wrap!

If you’re ready to go hard on wrap theory, I’m teaching this class November 24th at 10am PST.

Yes, you’ll get the replay if you can’t make it live. And even if you can, you’re going to want to replay so you can work through all the material I’m going to share.

It’s a LOT!

Hope to see you there!
